BibTeX Tools
MacKichan Software provides space on our FTP server for BibDB and on this web server
for these HTML pages. MacKichan Software is not responsible for the maintenance of
BibDB. Eyal Doron is not in any way affiliated with MacKichan
Software, Inc. BibDB is in the public domain.
A (probably partial) list of tools relating to BibTeX is given below. I would appreciate
hearing from you if you
come across additional tools which are not listed here.
Translation Tools
- A simple AWK script for translating from ProCite format to BibTeX format
is available here. I haven't tested it, though.
- Vince
Darley has written a set of Tcl scripts for Inspec, Hollis
(Harvard library format) and FirstSearch to BibTeX translation, called
Vince's Additions. You will need both the
library routines and the conversion scripts. A version for the mac Alpha
editor can be downloaded here.
- In order to translate the English BIDS format to BibTeX
you can use the Perl script bids.to.bibtex,
written by Ben
Bolker.
- A tool for translating BibTeX to HTML is bib2html,
written by David Hull.
Other Links
- A good source for various BibTeX tools are the CTAN archives, directory
biblio/bibtex/utils, in Germany,
the UK and the US.
- The LaTeX3
project team is working on what seems to be a successor to BibTeX, called Camel.
I don't know much about it, but you could give it a try.
- An alternative to BibTeX which already (sort of) exists is Tib. Unfortunately, the source code is
fairly messy, and might or might not compile on your system.
- A general purpose BibTeX-related tool is BibTool,
written by Gerd Neugebauer.
It includes such features as syntax-checking, cleaning up code, auto label
generation, regexp-based search and more. It is written in C and compiles
on MSDOS and Unix machines (you'll have to do the compilation yourself).
- Jonas Bjornerstedt has written
a Windows program called BibEdit which is meant for creating and modifying BibTeX
files. Its philosophy is different from that of BibDB, with an emphasis on a simplified
editing interface rather than search and display facilities, so in the interest
of healthy
competition I'll tell you that a beta version of BibEdit can be downloaded from
http://www.iui.se/staff/jonasb/bibedit/.
