Graphics in documents using graphicx don't appear in PDF files

Problem

The graphics in documents using the graphicx package do not appear in PDF files.

Explanation

The graphicx package has options for different output drivers. When the dvips driver is selected, the compiler is prevented from using the correct graphics instructions when it creates a PDF file. When a driver is not specified, a default driver is selected, automatically using the correct graphics instructions for typesetting for DVI or PDF.

Solution

Change the specification for the output driver:

1. Open the document.
2. From the Typeset menu, choose Options and Packages and then choose the Package Options tab.
3. Choose the graphicx package and then choose Modify.
4. In the Options box, click the currently selected driver to turn off the driver selection.
5. Choose OK.
6. Save and typeset compile the document for PDF.
