Numbering equations with custom numbers

Version: 3.5x, 4.x, 5.x - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

In SWP and SW, you can number displayed equations automatically or use your own custom numbers or labels to identify the display.

If automatic numbers are turned on, custom numbers and labels replace them. In the document window, custom-numbered displays are shown with the custom number or label in a small box to the side of the display.

When you typeset your document, the program places the custom number to the side of the display. If you don't typeset the document, the custom number appears according to the print options you have set. Displays with custom numbers can't have cross-reference keys.

Adding a custom number or label to displayed mathematics

  1. Select the display to be numbered.

  2. Choose Properties.

  3. In the Number area, check Custom.

If the display is a multiline display, choose the line number and check Custom for each line for which you want a custom number.

  4. Type the custom number or label in the entry box.

  5. If you're using AMS packages with SWP or SW and you don't want AMS formatting, check Suppress Annotation.

  6. If the display is a multiline display, repeat steps 3--5 for each line for which you want a custom number or label.

  7. Choose OK.
