Cross-reference keys for equations

Version: 3.x, 4.x, 5.x - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

Problem

When you add a key for a displayed equation so that you create cross-references to the equation, what appears on the screen to the right of the equation is a gray box containing #. The key doesn't appear.

Explanation

Keys appear only when Marker Fields are turned on from the View menu. By default, Marker Fields are turned off.

Solution

Add and display the key for a numbered equation like this:

  1. Place the insertion point at the end of the line containing the displayed equation.

  2. From the Edit menu, choose Properties.

  3. In the Display Properties dialog, enter the key you want for the equation in the box labeled Key for this Line.

  4. Choose OK.

  5. From the View menu, make sure Marker Fields is checked.

You can turn the display of the keys on and off by toggling the Marker Fields item on the View menu. When it's checked, the keys appear on your screen. When it isn't, they don't.
