Message: Error Starting Program. Required .DLL file not found

Version: 3.x - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

Problem

When you try to start up SWP 3.0, you receive the message

Error Starting Program. A required .DLL file, CTL3D32.DLL, was not found.

The.DLL file exists in your D:\lotus\register directory, but nowhere else.

Explanation

CTL3D32.DLL is a system DLL that should reside in your Windows system directory. The fact that it appears in some other directory means that the install program was probably confused into thinking the file was already properly installed.

Solution

Move the .DLL file to the Windows system directory, then try to start SWP 3.0 again. If you still get the error message, you may need to reboot your system.

If the problem persists, you may have an older version of the .DLL file. You can find a new version on your SWP or SW 3.0 CD.

  • For Windows95, copy CTL3D32.DLL from CD directory \Microsft\redist\Win95.

  • For WindowsNT, copy CTL3D32.DLL from CD directory \Microsft\redist.
