| Document 1001 Locating the profile directory for SWP, SW, or SNB when using Windows or OS X
Version: 6 - Scientific WorkPlace, Scientific Word, & Scientific
Notebook Where is the profile directory located? Windows
The profile directory can be different for different versions of Windows and
also different for local or network log in. A reliable way to locate the
profile directory is to use %appdata%, a
predefined Windows variable that contains the root for the profile directory.
Start Windows Explorer by using the Start Menu and clicking Computer (or My
Computer, depending on the particular version of Windows). In the address bar
enter %appdata% and press Enter. Windows Explorer
will update to show the root of the profile directory, typically a directory
   like C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming where
<user> is the name of the currently logged in user. Below this
directory will be SWP, SW, or SNB for Scientific WorkPlace, Scientific Word,
or Scientific Notebook, respectively. The next level is the directory
Profiles and below that the actual profile
directory that uses a name like cgwomvzy.default.
The final directory name is automatically created the first time you start the
program. So, the complete directory name will be something
   like: Macintosh OS X
The profile folder is located below ~/Library/Application
Support. Below this folder will be SWP, SW, or SNB for Scientific
WorkPlace, Scientific Word, or Scientific Notebook, respectively. The next
level is the directory Profiles and below that the
actual profile directory that uses a name like
pu0nd1yk.default. The final folder name is
automatically created the first time you start the program. So, the complete
   directory name will be something
like: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the 10.7 and later releases of OS X. To locate the profile folder, go to Finder and choose Go > Go to Folder, type ~/Library and click Go. You can then follow through to the lower level folders with the names described above.
