The LaTeX dropping package

Version: 3.x, 4.x, 5.x - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

The dropping package creates large dropped letters, as in the sample paragraph below. The number of lines over which you want the letters to extend determines their size. Experimentation will help you determine the most visually pleasing size for your document.

Example of a dropped letter

How to enter a dropped letter

  1. Add the dropping package to your document.
  2. Place the insertion point at the beginning of a paragraph.
  3. Enter an encapsulated TeX field.
  4. In the entry area, type \dropping[x]{y}{z} where x indicates how far from the left margin the letter should start (0pt is the default), y is the number of lines over which you want the capital letter to extend, and z is the letter or letters you want to enlarge.
  5. Choose OK.
  6. Type the remainder of the sentence.

Many driver options are available through the Options and Packages command on the Typeset menu. We recommend that you leave the driver option unchanged. The package is in the TCITeX/TeX/LaTeX/contrib/dropping directory.
