Message: Failed to update system registry
Version: 5.x - Scientific WorkPlace, Scientific Word, & Scientific Notebook
When you try to open SWP, SW, or SNB on a Windows Vista system, you see this message:
Failed to update system registry. Need permission to add?
SWP, SW, and SNB run correctly under Vista. The message appears because Vista's security provisions prevent our programs from updating the system registry.
You can safely ignore the message. Choose OK and continue working.
If you don't want to see the message each time, run the program once as Administrator to update the registry and turn off the messages:
1. Click Windows Start and then right click on the SWP, SW, or SNB program shortcut.
2. Run the program as Administrator, providing the password your system uses.
