Error: Scinoteb.exe file is linked to missing export CTL3D32.DLL
Version: 3.x - Scientific Notebook
Problem
When you try to start Scientific Notebook, you get this message:
Error Starting Program: Scinoteb.exe file is linked to missing export
CTL3D32.DLL
Explanation
This message occurs when the CTL3D32.DLL on a Windows system is an older
version than the one SN requires. The installation program checks for the
existence but not the version of the file version of the file. If your version
of CTL3D32 is newer than the version required, the problem doesn't occur. If
your version is older, it does.
Solution
You can solve the problem three ways.
Solution 1. (Recommended) Download the correct version of
CTL3D32.DLL from our FTP site.
If you're using Windows 95,
go to the CTL3D32.DLL file on the FTP site, then save the file to your
hard drive.
If you're using Windows NT,
go to the CTL3D32.DLL file on the FTP site, then save the file to your hard
drive.
Solution 2. Delete the CTL3D32 file.
-
Search your Windows 95 or Windows NT directory for the CTL3D32.DLL program,
which may be present in more than one directory.
-
Remove all instances of the CTL3D32.DLL program.
-
Reinstall Scientific Notebook.
Solution 3. Capture the correct file from the Scientific
Notebook CD.
-
If your CD is marked Build 894 or later, copy the file you need to your
Windows directory:
-
If you have a Windows 95 system, copy CTL3D32S.DLL to your Windows 95/System
directory, CHANGING THE NAME OF THE FILE TO
CTL3D32.DLL.
-
If you have a Windows NT system, copy CTL3D32.DLL to your WindowsNT/System32
directory.
-
If the build number isn't indicated on your CD, extract the file you need:
-
Run the SN installation program until the first Welcome dialog box is
displayed on your screen.
At that point, the installation program will have created a subdirectory
called _istmp0.dir in your Windows temp directory and will have copied several
files from the CD to the subdirectory:
-
CTL3D32S.DLL, the file you need if you have a Windows 95 system.
-
CTL3D32.DLL, the file you need if you have a Windows NT system
-
If you have a Windows 95 system, copy CTL3D32S.DLL to your Windows 95/System
directory, CHANGING THE NAME OF THE FILE TO
CTL3D32.DLL.
-
If you have a Windows NT system, copy CTL3D32.DLL to your WindowsNT/System32
directory.
-
Exit the installation program.
