How to create roman numeral page numbers on exceptional pages

You can use a different page numbering scheme for the exceptional pages that are defined in the front matter of your SW document style. (Exceptional pages can include the title page and, depending on the style, the table of contents, list of figures, and list of tables.) Although it might seem more natural to change the page numbers using the SW Front Matter dialog box, you must use the Document Info dialog box instead. These instructions show you how to insert commands so that the front matter in your document is numbered with roman numerals and the body of your document is numbered with arabic numbers:

  1. From the File menu, choose Document Info.

  2. Choose the Preamble tab sheet.

  3. Place the insertion point on the line after the instruction input tcilatex.

  4. Type this command: \pagenumbering{roman}.

  5. Choose OK to close the dialog box.

  6. In your document, place the insertion point on a line immediately preceding the first chapter heading.

  7. From the Insert menu, choose Field and then choose TeX.

  8. When the TeX dialog box opens, check Encapsulate .

  9. In the Name box, enter a name to identify the field.

  10. In the Edit box, enter these two commands:

    \newpage

    \pagenumbering{arabic}

  11. Choose OK.
