How to add items to the title page in a document created with a Style Editor style

Version: 2.01 - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

In documents created with SW 2.0 Style Editor styles, the items included on the title page are usually display elements. Display elements, in turn, contain document variables. To add another item to your title page, you must modify the style to add another document variable and then use it in a new display element. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the style with the Style Editor.

  2. Create a new document variable:

    1. From the Category menu, choose Document Variable.

    2. From the Edit menu, choose New Item.

    3. Enter a name for the item.

In these instructions, we'll use the name NewItem.

    4. Choose OK.

    5. In the Default Value box, enter Default Value for NewItem.

    6. Check the Front Matter box.

  3. Create a new display element:

    1. From the Category menu, choose Display Element.

    2. From the Edit menu, choose New Item.

    3. Enter a name for the item.

In these instructions, we'll use the name NEWITEM.

    4. Choose OK.

    5. If the custom screen is not showing, click Custom.

    6. Check that the entry in the Components box is NewItem.

    7. Select the justification and paragraph style you want.

  4. Modify the title page.

    1. From the Category menu, choose Exceptional Page.

    2. In the lefthand column, select TitlePage.

    3. In the Vertical Material entry area, place the insertion point at the end of the line above where you want the new item to appear on the title page.

The order of the items in the Vertical Material area determines the order in which the items appear on your title page.

    4. Press Enter.

    5. Type Space{xin}where x is the number of inches you want separating the new item from the previous item.

    6. Press Enter.

    7. Type NEWITEM.

  5. Save the Style.

  6. Open SW and reload your document.

If SW is already open, you don't have to close and reopen it, but you do have to reload your document so that SW can apply the changes made to the style.

  7. Modify the front matter of your document:

    1. From the File menu, choose Front Matter.

    2. Place the insertion point at the end of any line above the TitlePg entry and press Enter.

    3. Click the Item Tag popup.

    4. From the Item Tag list, choose NewItem.

    5. Enter the information for the item.

    6. Choose OK.
