Plotting numerous functions

Version: 2.5 - Scientific WorkPlace

Q. In a Scientific WorkPlace version 2.5 document, I've used the Maple/Plot 2D/Rectangular command to plot nine functions on a graph. The graph appears correctly in WorkPlace, but it doesn't appear when I preview or print the document. What's happening?

A. The graph doesn't appear because of a limitation of the previewer and the amount of information it can bring in. In our experience, graphs with more than seven or eight simple functions can cause problems. You may be able to work around the problem this way:

  1. Specify several of the functions you want to graph.
  2. Plot the functions.
  3. Select the resulting graph and then from the Edit menu, choose Properties.
  4. In the Plot Properties dialog box, choose the Plot Components tab.
  5. In the Expressions and Relations area, select the item number of any of the functions already specified.
  6. In the entry area, place the insertion point at the end of the function, type a comma, and then type any additional functions you want to plot. Be sure to separate each function from the next with a comma. Maple will plot the graph again, this time including the new functions you have specified.
  7. Choose OK.

Note that functions added in this manner may appear in color and may not print as boldly as those that appear in black.
