Creating short figure captions for the list of figures

Version: 3.x, 4.x, 5.x - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

If the captions for the floating graphics in your document are too long to appear in a list of figures, you can shorten the way they appear in the list of figures but keep the full text of the caption in the document:

  1. Select the graphic.

  2. Click the Properties icon or, from the Edit menu, choose Properties.

  3. Choose the Labeling tab.

  4. Choose the position of the caption that will appear in the body of the document (Above or Below).

  5. In the Caption text area, type the caption as you want it to appear in the body of your document.

  6. Check the box marked Short form.

  7. In the Caption text area, type the caption as you want it to appear in the list of figures.

  8. Choose OK.
