Unit Name conversions are not available in SW

Version: 3.x, 4.x, 5.x - Scientific Word

Problem

The Help files indicate that unit conversions, such as between meters and feet, are possible, but they don't work in Scientific Word.

Explanation

That's right. To convert from one unit to another, you need the built-in computational engine that is part of SWP and SNB.

Solution

In SWP or SNB, follow these steps to convert meters to feet:

  1. Start mathematics.

  2. Enter 1 m = x ft where m and ft are units entered from the Unit Name dialog.

    On your screen, you see Math: 1m=xft

  3. From the Compute menu (or the Maple menu in earlier versions), choose Solve and then choose Exact.

    The screen now shows Math: 1m=xft, Solution is: Math: {x=3.2808}
