Updating the registry after an invalid page fault error

Version: 3.0 - Scientific Notebook

Problem

When Scientific Notebook launches, an Illegal Operation error message comes up with details similar to the following:

SCINOTEB caused an invalid page fault in module SCINOTEB.EXE at xxxx:xxxxxxx.

Explanation

The message is caused by a corrupt registry entry.

Solution

Remove the corrupt entry. Once it has been removed, the program should start up normally. Follow these instructions:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Run.

  2. In the Open box, type REGEDIT and choose OK.

    This opens the Registry Editor.

  3. Click the + symbol next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

  4. Click the + symbol next to Software.

  5. Click the + symbol next to TCI Software Research.

  6. Highlight the key C//Scinoteb/Scinoteb.ini.

Note: This line may differ and read C//Scinoteb/Scinotebook.ini. It is OK as long as it is for Scientific Notebook.

  7. Press the delete key on your keyboard and click Yes if prompted to verify that you want to delete this.

  8. Close the Registry Editor.

  9. Restart Scientific Notebook.
