Numbering equations automatically

Version: 3.5x, 4.x, 5.x - Scientific WorkPlace & Scientific Word

In SWP and SW, you can number displayed mathematics automatically or use your own custom numbers to identify the display.

NoteYou must typeset the document to generate automatic equation numbers. If you don't typeset the document, the numbers aren't generated and don't appear on the preview screen or in print.

You can turn automatic numbering on for all displayed equations in your document or for selected displays. In the program window, automatically numbered displays appear with a # symbol in a small box to the side of the display. When you typeset your document, the program replaces the # symbol with the number of the displayed equation and formats the number according to the typesetting specifications for the document. With some AMS packages, the number may be typeset in parentheses or otherwise annotated.

You can add a cross-reference key to automatically numbered displays. When you typeset your document, the program replaces the reference with the number of the display.

If you don't typeset the document, the # symbol isn't replaced, no special formatting occurs, and cross-references are ignored.
